Great video. For someone who is visually impaired, ebooks have the advantage because as you mentioned I can change the font size. Regardless if it’s physical books or ebooks, I listen to the audiobook version because it’s like you said it helps me focus.

The irony is that the brain responds to audiobooks the same was as if you’re reading a physical book, but this is not the case with ebooks.

Physical books all the way the are great to feel in my hand
I take my Kobo Clara everywhere and all my books are off Overdrive.
I use to be sort of a book snob, but the moment I got my E-reader I have not purchased a physical book since. Because of our current predicament with Covid, physically going to the library isn't an option but I still want to support them.
I use all 3 forms.
10% physical
20% audible books
80% ebooks
In addition, as a sci-fi author who uses TTS (text-to-speech) to create their audiobooks, the technologies are converging. With TTS, devices will be able to read aloud any ebooks AND physical books (through the phone’s camera), you have.
Additionally, I’ve made my TTS audiobook as an mp3 (and it sounds just like a human) and it is the same price as the ebook because I did it without any external recording. With an mp3 file as an audiobook, it can also be listened to on any mp3 playing device and even transferred to CD (considering the person has a CD player).
Also, with apps that use TTS, voices can be changed, which currently is not an option with recorded audiobooks.
TTS is currently like in between an ebook and audiobook because although it is audio it currently doesn’t convey emotion as a human narrator does. Sound files in general take up more digital space than text files and currently all popular audiobook sites don’t except TTS audiobooks, so those are the downsides.
It’s also very easy to transfer ebooks to print books and will, eventually, from print to ebooks. Although this is normally done by the author, it wouldn’t be a stretch that anyone would be able to easily do it in the future.
So, in summary, TTS should be your 4th option and the technologies are merging.

I 100% agree with you, ebooks are becoming my favourite way of reading for all the reasons you've mentioned. I've also really enjoyed some of the audiobooks I've been listening to this year and combining all 3 forms of reading has allowed me to read so much more this year! I am definitely heading towards more ebooks/audiobooks and less physical books for sure. One of my resolutions this year is to not buy a single physical book and read the ones I have so will see how that goes lol
I’m not a huge fan of Ebook, I’ve read some but for some reason I forget about them. I love audiobooks and physical books. I think that for me the pro that physical books have Over audiobooks is that I can fold the pages and highlight them. Like I love making my books feel mine, if that makes sense, and audiobooks take that part of the experience away
You forgot to mention free ebooks offered by various sources. I can name project Gutenberg https://www.gutenberg.org/ While you wouldn't get the latest releases it's a great way to read some of the classics and new books are added constantly so 80's literature is fair game!
Check with your library, you can probably borrow audio books as well to help with the cost factor.
My preference is physical books from the library unfortunately not every community has the funds for a library. Then there’s the problem of some libraries not having a truly diverse selection of books.
Ebooks are great but only on a kindle which sucks because hoopla is great but not available on kindle. I can only tolerate audiobooks for nonfiction books on subjects I want to know about but not really want to take the time to read, if that makes sense. I’m not sure audiobooks can replace or be counted as reading because I think listening comprehension and reading comprehension are two different skills.
Does audio book helps people with deslysxia issues ?
I love audio books because it's almost like a podcast! Also, you get to multi-task..perfect for people who don't have a lot of energy or time to physically read 🙂
